Directive 2006/42/EC of the European Parliament on machinery, which amends Directive 95/16/EC, (short: Machinery Directive) defines a standardised level of protection for the prevention of accidents on machines available on the market in the European Economic Area, Switzerland and Turkey. Observance of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC has been mandatory since the beginning of 2010. It was transposed into national law in the 9th ordinance of the German Equipment Safety Law (ProdSG), which came into force at the end of 2011. It requires a comprehensive range of tests and assessments to be carried out on the product that must be verified through documentation.

Classification of machines

Detecting and evaluating risks and defining measures

The devil is in the details! A risk assessment is indispensable when designing a compliant machine. It is important here to identify the individual risks – from electrical to ergonomic risks – during all interventions over the entire life cycle of the machine. "There are risks due to shearing and crushing” is neither an adequate description nor does it really provide any help to your engineers. Our team has used its long-standing experience to develop a system that describes and evaluates the specific types of risk in the individual life cycles of the machine in detail. To provide engineering with the necessary information, a risk assessment from our company always includes a safety concept. This will directly provide your employees with information on which safety function can be implemented with which product, what notices need to be attached and what information needs to be included in the operating instructions.

Documentation

Those who write things down will be remembered. Operating instructions for the machine form an important part of the conformity assessment process. Employees who have been specially trained in this subject will support you in this area.

Verification of functional safety

Theory and practice. The safety functions and performance requirements that arise from the risk assessment not only need to be defined on paper but must also be implemented in reality and documented.
