Cleaning Polycarbonate

Optimal Cleaning

Polycarbonate as a safety fence filling offers the advantage of providing good visibility into the device due to its transparency, and its high strenght, rigidity, and very high impact resistance make it highly durable against mechanical influences. It also offers good temperature resistance and excellent electrical insulating properties. However, to avoid damaging the polycarbonate during cleaning, there are a few important point to keep in mind.

Cleaning Agents

1. Choose the right cleaning agent
Using the wrong cleaning agents can cause stress cracks and, in extreme cases, even break the material. Suitable cleaning agents include mild detergents such as soft soap, or lightly acidic, neutral, or mildly alkaline cleaners. Avoid cleaning agents that contain acetone, MEK, methanol, methylene chloride, carbon tetrachloride, or other solvents. Polycarbonate should also not come into contact with gasoline, nail polish remover, or paint removers.

Cleaning Cloth

2. Use a soft cleaning cloth
For cleaning polycarbonate sheets, soft microfiber cloths or soft sponges are ideal because they effectively capture dust and dirt particles, preventing scratches.

Scrubbing

3. Avoid abrasive materials
Polycarbonate is highly susceptible to scratches, so abrasive materials should be avoided. Stains can be removed using a soft cloth and isopropyl alcohol.

Procedure:

Prepare a bucket of lukewarm water, adding a small amount of mild detergent or mild soap. Then, use a soft sponge or microfiber cloth along with the cleaning solution to wash the polycarbonate sheet. Be sure to rinse the cloth or sponge regularly. Finally, thoroughly rinse the sheet with clean water and dry it with a chamois or leather cloth. Before drying, fresh grease or paint stains can be removed with a soft cloth and isopropyl alcohol.
